The British Exploring Society's Future Expeditions

Welcome !
My name is Kas and I am fundraising money for the incredible British Exploring Society.
Who am I ? Well, I somehow managed to stumble into a career in Software Development without ever attending University or receiving formal training, earlier this year I decided start partaking in an intense CrossFit training regime just for the fun of it and I'm an avid climber who enjoys bouldering on the side as well as proper scrambles like Striding Edge, Sharp Edge and Tryfan.
Oh, and I'm currently trying to restore a car in my spare time (Yep, the cover picture is me sitting in the engine bay of said car), even though I'm not remotely a mechanic and have never done anything more than an oil change.
So I guess you could say I've made a bit of a habit of just jumping into an opportunity with both feet. That's enough about me though, I don't want to make anyone fall asleep.
It is thanks to people like you that the British Exploring Society has been transforming the lives of young people for nearly a century, and hopefully with our contributions we can keep it going for another century and beyond.
This map shows all of the places the British Exploring Society has taken young explorers to in the past. I'm glad to say that at the end of this year there will be a new pin on this map, the beautiful transcontinental country of Georgia which is where I will be going this August for 4 weeks as part of the Pinnacle Wild Leadership programme.
I feel incredibly privileged to have this opportunity, which is why I have set my fundraising target to £2197, equating to £1 for each mile that I will have to travel to get to Georgia from the UK.
I have already raised over £500 towards my campaign through work that I am doing for the Mozilla Foundation, and I don't plan to stop there.
Over the next few months I plan on reaching out to my local community and beyond in order to get as close as possible to my fundraising target.
I have set 4 main milestones in this campaign, upon reaching each one I will perform a specific challenge as part of the fundraising process, adding my updates to this page:
- £500: A heavy hike. I'll complete an ascent to Haystacks (835 metres), Wainwright's favourite climb in the Lake District with a weighted load to simulate all of the kit I'll be carrying on the expedition.
- £1000: I'll partake in an organised 10k run (Spoilers: I've never done a marathon style run before, but there's a first for everything)
- £1500: A Tough Mudder event. This is going to be messy.
- £2000: TBC. This is the big one. I will let my donors pick a challenge for me. There's no backing out.
I'll aim to collect some unique mementos and gifts whilst I am on the expedition, with the aim of giving something back to all of the top donors.
So this is your opportunity to get involved and to help discover the next generation of young explorers through the amazing work of the British Exploring Society.
Thank you !
