The Broadleaf Writers Homebound Initiative

Tax deductible

The mission of Broadleaf Writers has always been one of community. As writers, we spend a great deal of time alone. In our heads. Isolated from others. Of the many lessons we preach to emerging writers, the primary is one of involvement. Attending writing programs. Going to conferences. Connecting with others. Through this, we not only learn, improve, and find the inspiration to push through the doubt and difficulty but address potential mental health concerns while discovering we are not alone. Only through community can we succeed.

The pandemic, however, opened us to the reality that getting together is not always possible. Through two virtual conferences and discussions with members of the organization, we have learned that some individuals aren't at home solely because of a pandemic. They're home because they physically can't leave. They're home because their mental health demands it. They're home because of accessibility issues or concerns. They're home because they have concerns about their safety or inclusion.

They're home, unable to physically be a part of a writing community.

Which makes it our responsibility to come to them. Broadleaf Writers is an organization created to fulfill the needs of all writers, no matter their background, race, gender, age, or style of writing. Not simply to pursue the dream of publication, but because the skill of writing is an invaluable tool that can improve communication and advance professional standing. To truly be an organization representing all writers, we need to bring the same programming and opportunity to those unable to attend in person.

Which is where you come in. We need to raise funds necessary to purchase computers, cameras, audio equipment, pay guest authors to teach, and fund the platforms and programming we will need to give the homebound the same opportunities. Whether to attend programs, member gatherings, pitch sessions with literary agents, or even an entire conference, we want all writers to gain and learn and progress from what we can offer. We want everyone to pursue their dream.

You can make a difference by donating today to Broadleaf Writers Association. No donation is too small. Every dollar given gets us closer to our goal. All donations are tax-deductible. As a donor, you will be listed on the Broadleaf Writers Association Website and any program guides we use.

It's upon us all to pass along the help we were given. To give to those who have needs. Help us create a path to education, inspiration, and community for those who cannot do so themselves. The more we raise, the more we can expand this initiative.

The Broadleaf Writers mission is to enrich and advance the craft of writing for all writers through education, inspiration and community. Diversity is our goal. We continue to seek ways to improve the diversity of our attendees and speakers, and to create a welcoming environment for all.
