UPDATE:
After undergoing a double mastectomy last month, Rachel learned that the cancer wasn't contained in the breasts. She will undergo a PET scan this week and begin chemotherapy this month.
Many of you know Jim Brusky, he and his family have been an integral part of our community for decades.
-Jim was LBHS English/Journalism teacher since 2006.
-Jim was an LBHS “Artist,” Class of 1995. Born in South Laguna, 1976.
-Brusky inherited his compassion for students, and often for the underdogs, from his father, John Brusky, who worked as a substitute teacher at all four Laguna schools after selling real estate and coaching youth sports for decades, in the town where he raised 5 kids.
-Over the last 13 years, Brusky has been challenged by consistent health challenges (a back surgery, two brain surgeries, and most recently, a brain injury that has pushed him out of what he loves the most: teaching).
Despite the health struggles, Brusky has been blessed with three young children with his wife and best friend, Rachel. Just a few weeks ago, Rachel, the “glue” of the Brusky family, learned she has breast cancer. Her fight begins with a double mastectomy this Tuesday 11/14.
As an ex-student and friend of Mr.Brusky I can say there is no one else I hold in higher esteem. As a teacher he exemplified integrity and academic excellence by always pushing and supporting students to do their best. As a friend I can say he is one of the most compassionate, inspirational, loyal, and wise human beings I know. Brusky and his family have been servants of our community for decades, it would be so wonderful in return, for our community to show them our love and support during a very trying time. Thank you so much.
