The Cathy and John Hynd Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
My name is Sharon Farrar and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Janeen Hynd to keep alive the memory of her wonderful parents, Cathy and John Hynd, who were pillars of the worldwide Scottish Highland Dance community. John and Cathy passed away within 9 months of each other in 2020-2021. A planned celebration of life was postponed because of COVID restrictions.
Janeen and her daughter Ava live far away from her parents’ home in California. Recently, Janeen reached out to five close friends of her parents, including me, and the idea was born to establish The Cathy and John Hynd Memorial Scholarship to encourage and motivate Highland Dancers to strive for excellence in the dance form both her parents loved.
Members of the scholarship committee helping Janeen are Ann Johnson, Sandra Bald Jones, Heather Jolley, Aileen Robertson McMillan and Sharon Farrar, all of whom admired, loved, and miss Cathy and John very much.
This scholarship of $2000 will be awarded annually on a rotating basis at events in the USA, Scotland, Canada and Australia. The first presentation will be in Portland Oregon on July 23, 2023.
Cathy and John traveled far and wide to Highland competitions, to judge at some and to take students to others. The winner of the Cathy and John Hynd Memorial Scholarship must use the money to travel and compete at an open Championship in a country of their choice including their own within 2 years and share a written story of their experience with Janeen and the Highland Dance community. Cathy and John would be so pleased!
Please help us keep this memorial to our great friends Cathy and John funded in perpetuity by donating to this fund.
