The Chafin Family

James received a bone marrow biopsy yesterday and his transplant is still a go! No foreseen delays!! This is great news!!

Hello Friends and Family!

This go fund me is for our dear friends, James and Nancy Chafin.

In April of this year, the Chafin family was given life altering news. James was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).

Myelodysplastic syndromes , or MDS for short, are cancers that start in the bone marrow, the soft inner part of some bones where new blood cells are made. It is a disruption in the production in red blood cells. In MDS, some cells in the bone marrow don't grow like they should. In short, James blood does not have enough healthy red blood cells.

In this small amount of time, James has undergone intensive treatments, including chemotherapy and countless blood transfusions. Ultimately, a bone marrow transplant is the only cure.

Throughout this time, James has continued to work, never ceased being the strongest husband and father to his three children and one of the best friends to everyone around him. Until recently, not many people knew he was even sick. That’s just the type of human he is.

If you know the Chafin’s in any capacity, you can understand when we write that they are always giving. They are the most generous people we know. James is always helping others and showing his support. They are dependable, loyal, caring, compassionate people, but most of all, their hearts are always pure.

The beginning of August, James and Nancy will travel to UPenn in Philadelphia where he will receive the last round of chemotherapy. Not too long after, he will receive his life saving bone marrow transplant and will have to stay in the hospital for the next 30-45 days. When released, James will have to be off work for a considerable amount of time. He will also have to travel back and forth for numerous appointments in Philadelphia.

As we all can imagine, no one is fully prepared for something like this to happen, financially and/or emotionally.

This Gofund me account has been set up to help this beautiful family out in anyway. James is not one to ask for help. We felt the need to help ease his stress and focus on healing, not the burden of financial needs. As we all can understand, travel and medical expenses can be costly. Whether you feel it in your heart to donate financially, in any amount, all proceeds will go towards any costs that would arises. Every little bit of your generosity is appreciated.

Let’s show the Chafin’s that they are not in this alone. The generosity of family and friends will show them how much we care!
