"In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it. – Marianne Williamson (Founder of Project Angel Food)
My name is Anna Magoon, and I'm a professional Latina chef and entrepreneur who grew up here in Green Mountain State. Those local to the area may remember me from my previous extremely successful small-scale dumpling business Dumps-A-GoGo! The Chameleon Cafe is the new creation I’d like to introduce to you.
Two years ago, after being admitted to the hospital for what we believed had been covid, my father was diagnosed with end-of-stage kidney failure. Since my dad's diagnosis has allowed me to reflect on my life and what I'd like my next step to be. Gaining courage from my family and friends but primarily from within, I know that the next phase of my culinary career will be directed to better the area around me.
Like a Chameleon, I have managed to adapt to the news I was given and am not giving up on my dream. Not being able to start my business in a permanent spot has its setbacks, but it also allows me to explore new options and different locations for pop-up events. I will work out of Arnold's Block Coworking Space in Bethel, VT, and will be stationed there for most of my day-to-day business. There has been a tremendous outpour of restaurant owners and companies willing to host The Chamelon in their space and let me sell food on the days they are closed. I am trying to get my name out there and build up a following, just like my dumpling business, while I wait to find out how the surgery process will go.
One of our goals at Chameleon is to support our local farmers and the community by delivering the freshest and highest quality product while staying affordable. You get what you pay for – at Chameleon, which includes different, high-quality, nutrient-rich drinks and food. Not all of our farmers will be certified organic, but our commitment to getting the best produce and ingredients we can find is always number one on our list. We will source organically whenever possible, but local comes first. With its unique menu and conscious health efforts, I believe it could bring in over $100,000 in just a year. With the money brought in from catering, I would use this to find a permanent location here in the Upper Valley.
To get Chameleon off the ground, I estimate the initial cost will be roughly $15,000. The $15,000 will allow me to order all the catering equipment, register my business, purchase business insurance, and rent for the first three months.
I plan to be as resourceful as possible by reaching out to other local restaurants for kitchen equipment and auction websites to lower costs and not further our carbon footprint from big named suppliers.
Every donation genuinely does make a change. I will be keeping everyone updated on the journey via this gofundme.
