The Chubby Cupboard Repairs and Safety
Donation protected
On Sunday, December 8, 2024, around 3pm, while Mari was at the shop preparing for a class, two teenagers ran past The Chubby Cupboard storefront and threw a rock through the window, aimed at the Pride flag hanging there. The shop's open sign was on, the front door was open, and it was obvious someone was there working. Thus we can only assume that their motive was to scare whoever was inside. The only explanation we can come to, is that this was a hate crime. The business is openly Queer owned and operated, and we serve and support the LGBTQ+ community, which we are a part of, here in Sacramento.
We're asking our community now to rally behind us to help us repair the storefront.
A police report and an insurance claim was filed, and though insurance will cover the majority of the window replacement, we do still have to meet the deductible of 1000$. The remaining 200$ of our goal will go towards security measures for the shop (cameras) to hopefully prevent anything like this from happening again in the future.
We love and appreciate all of you so much and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
