Goodbye Dear Neighbor – A Documentary About the Final Semester at The College of Saint Rose
I am a film professor in the Communications Department at The College of Saint Rose. In December, 2023, myself and the entire community learned that our school would be shutting down at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Since the closure announcement, our film crew, including students working on the film, have been working tirelessly to document our community before it is gone. We are almost done with the first phase of film-making, yet the film will require significantly more work in order for it to be completed.
Please consider donating to help our shoestring project cover the costs of equipment rental, color correction, sound design, and a final edit to produce a beautiful finished product.
The story of The College of Saint Rose is one which bears national significance. Since 2016, at least 91 colleges have closed, merged, or announced closure or merger plans. The College of Saint Rose is likely the largest college to close in this time period. This documentary presents an opportunity to personalize a national trend and to reflect on the value of higher education not just for students and faculty, but for a general populace and the economy of a neighborhood.
