The Cost of Losing Moxie
Donation protected
I would like to say really nice things about Moxie here and tell our story. I will update to do that some time when I’m in a different stage of grief. Right now all I can say is I’ve lost the biggest part of me.
We’ve spent the last week getting emergency and intensive medical care for Moxie in an effort to understand what was wrong and try to treat it. The costs total around $15k in vet bills alone, plus accompanying expenses.
Main Vet Bill Expenses:
- 5 and a half cumulative days in the ICU ($4,631)
- 3 separate emergency admission fees (total $790)
- MRI ($3,016) (full disclosure we don’t think they’ve charged us for this one yet)
- Chest X Ray ($368)
- Spinal Tap ($295)
- Ultrasound ($667)
- Nasal rhinoscopy ($628)
- Bloodwork ($540)
- Lots of Medication ($2,537)
- Testing ($1,822)
- Cremation ($243)
Accompanying Expenses:
- Cabs, Ubers, and UberPets, especially the ones between Park Slope and the Upper East Side
- 3 nights in a hotel
- Non-slip rugs so she could walk on the wood floors for the four days she was home
- Dog carrying sling so we could get her up and down the stairs the four days she was home
- Potty pads
- A new bed for Mox’s dog buddy Sam (He was letting her borrow his and we ended up needing it to carry her into the emergency vet- it’s ruined now)
- Eliza’s two unpaid days off of work because she ran out of PTO during this
Nothing will bring our Moxie back, but any small amount to help ease the financial impact is appreciated.
With love and gratitude,
Kathryn, Eliza, and Mox-Mox
