Danielle passed away June 6, 2024, after a long battle with leukemia. We would like to honor Danielle’s incredible legacy by creating a scholarship in her name for college students pursuing a degree in Education.
At the time of her passing, Danielle was an Associate Professor of Education at Alfred University. Prior to joining Alfred’s faculty, Danielle was a faculty member at the University of Northern Iowa and San Francisco State University. Danielle completed her Doctoral degree in Special Education at Syracuse University School of Education.
Danielle’s love for her work was clear to anyone who had the honor of knowing her. She was a wonderful teacher who was incredibly proud of and committed to her students. She was also highly involved in inclusive education reform work, and throughout her career collaborated with local schools and families to effect change in schools towards inclusivity. Danielle was also an incredibly talented writer; it was difficult to walk away after reading Danielle’s work without wanting to change the world and make schools a more inclusive and happier place for all children.
Danielle was a remarkable person and she would have loved and been deeply touched to know that she inspired us to establish a scholarship for others who share in this passion for education. It is our intent that this scholarship will assist future educators to become the best teachers that they can be by helping to defer some of the cost of their education.
It’s our hope that through this scholarship we can support the other remarkable people out there who dream of a future in education.
