This page has been created on behalf of Joe Crandall, his wife Liz and their 2 daughters -Lily and Penelope.
Our family has known the Crandalls for about 7 years. Our girls became instant friends when they met at 4K and it’s been amazing to watch their friendship grow, along with our younger girls who are also in the same grade. During this time, Joe and Liz have welcomed us into their home many times for cookouts, birthday parties and game nights. It is evident that family is their number one priority as they support Lily in gymnastics and Penelope in her new-found love of theater. Joe is known for always being willing to help, as a man with a heart of gold, and a quick sense of humor that will keep you laughing and seeing the comical side of things. Liz has been a dedicated registered nurse for the last 10 years and her passion for the job has been more clear than ever, especially during our Covid-19 pandemic, when she selflessly dedicated her time and energy to helping families during a time of crisis.
After suffering from headaches, Joe went to the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, where they found a swollen optic nerve in his left eye, and he was scheduled for bloodwork and 3 MRIs. On Wednesday, January 25, Joe was diagnosed with a brain mass and taken to MMC-Marshfield. That next Saturday, he had surgery to have as much of the mass removed as possible. During surgery, Joe had an unexpected amount of bleeding, which led doctors and his family to believe he might not survive surgery and if he did, they were not sure what his quality of life would look like. The superior efforts of the hospital staff along with the prayers from family and friends have paid off! Joe is a miracle and has been so strong during all of this. By Sunday morning, he was awake, able to move, follow commands and ready to have his breathing tube out! He is currently still being monitored in the ICU and faces a long road ahead of him, while he is having coordination and eye issues.
In addition to the trials and tribulations that they have already faced, Joe will have to be followed by a neurologist for the rest of his life. They were not able to remove the tumor completely and are awaiting pathology results. Having another surgery is possible, to have a permanent drain put in.
Like many of you, we felt helpless and desperately wanted to offer support, but didn’t quite know how. While Liz explained to me that she is driving back and forth from Weston to Marshfield every day to help and be with Joe we realized, a Go Fund Me page would be an easy way to offer financial support for current and future medical costs, show our love, and repay some the kindness and light their family has given to so many others.
We sincerely thank you for any contributions of any amount and feel free to share a link to this page with anyone in your reach. Most importantly, please continue to keep the Crandall family in your prayers.
