The Cryptid Cast vs. The Goopy Ganker Short Film
Donation protected
Hey Folks! I’m Jackson DiCarlo, Co-Director of this fantastic project: The Cryptid Cast vs. The Goopy Ganker. I’m writing on behalf of the rest of us in Dream Team Productions to tell you more about this film and our goals. Any and all donations help us make this project the best it can be, and are rewarded with your name in the credits!
The Plot & Characters
So here’s the Plot Synopsis:
“The host of a monster themed college radio show gets herself and her friends wrapped up in an investigation after the mysterious disappearance of two of their classmates.”
That’s basically The Cryptid Cast vs. The Goopy Ganker
Out For Intrigue, And Out of Their League…
We’ve got several characters in this movie, but here are the stars of the show:
Kate Blair: Reckless and Curious Radio Host, Their Own Best Friend and Worst Enemy
Ron Andersen: Reasonable and Reliable, The Levelheaded One
Alex Quincy: Innocent and Charming, The Heart of the Group
The Goopy Ganker: Wet and Wild, The Mysterious Monster
This adventure horror-comedy film is reminiscent of Goosebumps, Scooby-Doo, and classic Universal Monsters like Dracula and The Creature of The Black Lagoon. The script was written by Co-Directors Jackson DiCarlo & Ben Anderson over the summer of 2021.
The Team
When I say The Dream Team, I really mean The Dream Team. I could not be more proud and excited to work with this group of students on this project. We’ve got the core crew of our Video Production Capstone class at SUNY Fredonia, mostly seniors with years of experience and education making movies.
Joining us are several of our friends from other parts of the school, ranging from Makeup Artists, Music Composers, Graphic Designers, Storyboarders, Actors, Fight Choreographers, and more.
We’re a bunch of college students that are dedicated, talented, and raring to prove it.
The Process
Making movies is fun, but not exactly easy. It takes weeks and months of careful planning and execution, and this project is no exception. So what needs to get done, and when will it get done?
Pre-production is already underway. Shot design, casting, location scouting, and so on are being worked on.
Production itself, AKA shooting, is set to begin in February. We’re expecting to have shoots leading into March, varying in length from a few hours, to a full day, to a few days depending.
Post-production is putting it all together. Editing primarily, but we also have a lot of other stuff planned for when we’re done shooting, namely submitting this film to festivals.
With all of that said, we can expect the project to be fully done between April and May.
Where is the Money Going?
There’s a lot of places your money will go. Almost too many. There are going to be a lot of costs in this project, but most of them come from these. Here’s the main expenses:
Costumes: We’ve got 6 student characters that need costumes and a big goopy guy. In past projects, we’ve spent anywhere from $50 to $100 on costumes per person.
Makeup: It wouldn’t be The Goopy Ganker without goop. We’re gonna need supplies to make a lot of goop to cover it and it’s victims. We’ll also have some scrapes and scratches, bruises and bleeding. This combined with costumes is what’s going to take a lot of cost and development.
Props: People use things, and rooms are usually full of them. Set dressing and items for characters to use are another thing we need to pay for.
Provisions: A fancy way of saying food and snacks. Some of these shoots can be long or during times people usually eat, so it’s important to keep everyone well fed and energized. You’re also basically pitching in for pizza.
Festival Submissions: We’re gonna be sending this into as many film festivals as we can once we’re done with this and maybe win some awards. Some are free, and some are paid entries, so we’re gonna try to do a bit of both. This is the last of the costs, coming in after we’ve already paid for and did everything else, so it’ll primarily use what’s left over.
How Much Money Do You Need?
Great Question. As I said, we’ve got a lot of expenses and there’s no exact budget, but we do know we’ll need a solid chunk of change. A few hundred dollars at the very least. GoFundMe recommends setting the goal for starter projects at $1000, which is why it’s set to that. If we make less than that, we’ll use everything we got. If we make more, we’ll be investing more into higher quality materials, getting more provisions, and submitting to more festivals. We’ll be using everything we raise in one way or another as soon as it comes in.
How to Get Your Name in the Credits
This is the fun part. It’s really easy. All you have to do is donate! Any amount counts. One dollar or one hundred. We want to show our appreciation to everyone!
When you donate to the project, GoFundMe will ask you for your name. If you have an account, it will use the name on your account. If you want to change the name on the donation, you should be able to do so in your “Donations You’ve Made” section of your account. You can also donate multiple times to have multiple people’s names, or have one donation be for the whole family.
Ex: Jerry Jones, Larry Jones, George Jones. (3 Separate Donations)
Ex: The Jones Family (1 Donation)
P.S. We reserve the right to not include your name for any reason, especially if it’s something inappropriate like Hugh Janus (Looking at you, Dad)
If you donate anonymously, your name won’t show up publicly on the crowdfunding page, but we’ll still be able to credit you. According to GoFundMe, when you donate anonymously your name will still be visible to us, the benefactor. That’s totally up to you how you’d like to donate, but either way, we got you.
If for any reason you don’t want to be credited or any other issues occur, please let us know and we’ll be sure to accommodate you.
Conclusion
Truly, thank you so much for donating, sharing, reading, and checking this out. Anything and everything helps. We’re all extremely grateful and excited to work on this film. As a part of this project, we’ll be documenting as much as we can and showing off a lot of behind the scenes magic. To stay up to date, be sure to follow the project on Instagram @CryptidCastMovie. We’ll occasionally post updates on the page here as well, so stay tuned.
Thanks once again,
Sincerely,
