The deaf chefs to complete their food truck dream
Donation protected
We’re two deaf sisters who have a dream...
As a member of the deaf community, my sister and I have identified a social need for a deaf food truck that provides a safe space and learning centre for the deaf community.
The deaf community is underrepresented, and it can often be challenging to secure employment if you are deaf.
I believe that The Deaf chefs will not only provide the local community with a vibrant and educational space but also allow pathways for young people who are deaf or come from a vulnerable LGBTQ background. The qualified staff in British Sign Language (BSL) will allow an exciting and educational space for the community to learn in a natural environment.
Not only will The Deaf Chefs provide ethically sourced coffees and teas, but it will also provide a range of healthy food, protein, vegetarian and vegan, focusing on street food cuisine that is locally sourced.
The Deaf chef will provide a safe social hub for the community and allow an array of ethnic backgrounds who are deaf to come together, socialise, and learn.
We want to provide apprenticeship schemes for younger adults. The Deaf chef will provide official BSL classes allowing the BSL community to grow and increase the number of people practising and understanding BSL.
Your donations will help us kick-start the business and enable us to fulfil our dream in this project. Please see The Deaf Chef on all social media platforms to see how your donation has contributed to the business. There is a lot of work to be done -
- caravan paint and bodywork. (Completed, thanks to all your donations <3)
-Website design.
-Kitchen equipment.
-We need a Van.
The list goes on...
Thank you for your contribution, however big or small; every little helps get this food truck on the road and The Deaf Chef at an event near you! The Deaf Chef will be more than a food truck; it’s a social hub, a home, and a sense of belonging.
