THE DETROIT HAND SANITIZER PROJECT & (MASKS!)
8/19 UPDATE: To date we've distributed over 100 gallons of FREE hand sanitizer! The donations were divided into over 2300 4oz bottles & over 75 quart size bottles. We have also made & distributed over 5000 FREE fabric face masks! We are now working on a large batch of kids size fabric face masks in time for back to school!
WHY
Hand sanitizer has become essential as this Covid-19 pandemic sweeps across the country, and Detroit has been hit especially HARD.
It is now sold out in most physical stores and becoming really hard to find. Buying it online often takes 2+ weeks to receive as well.
Typically, if you are lucky enough to find it, it’s only being sold in larger volumes like by the gallon. At $50 per gallon, it is impractical or inaccessible for many Detroiters.
WHO
Health Care Workers
Local Non-Profits
Senior Homes, Group Homes, Nursing Homes
Small Local Business & Essential Workers
Families & Individuals
Anyone in need! People in shelters, people on the streets, anyone with limited means.
THE PLAN
I’ve found a supplier for 4oz bottles and have already purchased 500 to start!
I am purchasing and accepting donations of large volumes of hand sanitizer, and filling up the 4oz bottles so they can be easily distributed to as many people as possible, as soon as possible!
DISTRIBUTION
We are working with several Community Leaders & Organizations within Detroit, to help identify the most urgent needs.
We are working with several individuals & groups that are regularly distributing PPE, FOOD, & other supplies directly to hospitals and health care workers.
COST
Everything is unfairly overpriced right now because bottles and hand sanitizer are so scarce and in demand.
Our 4oz bottles with lids are costing an average of $.90 per bottle.
Hand sanitizer right now costs an average of $50 per gallon. This is enough for 32 bottles.
1 gallon = 128oz; 4oz = $1.56.
So one bottle ($.90) + 4oz of sanitizer ($1.56) = $2.46.
GOALS
We would like to be able to distribute AT LEAST 1000 bottles, hence our $2460 goal.
We are committed to spending every dollar raised on bottles and hand sanitizer & would love to exceed our 1000 bottle goal!
We will also accept direct donates of hand sanitizer!
Special thanks to Fuel Our Front Lines for getting us started & distributing to our Health Care Workers.
Special thanks to Detroit Bus Company for making hand sanitizer in Detroit & donating our first gallon!
An extra big thanks to everyone around the world making masks & helping any way they can; especially my team #detroitlovesyou
