Help the Devereaux Family get back on their feet

TL;DR - Between many months of unemployment and a recent broken foot, Rachel and Jerry need assistance affording essential medical equipment and bridging the gap for their monthly expenses.

It's been a very long few years for many families since the start of the pandemic. Between the loss of stability with the nationwide stay-at-home orders and the devastating effects of COVID-19 on ourselves and our loved ones, everyone has had their share of some of the hardest personal struggles.

Rachel and Jerry, parents to just-turned 6-year-old twin girls, Medli and Rory, have had an especially rough go since COVID hit.

As many already know, Rachel has type-1 diabetes and that has wreaked havoc on her body. Due to the damage incurred from diabetes, Rachel's kidneys no longer function and she is in late-stage renal failure. She has been on dialysis for over 6 years while she continues to jump through every hoop to be added to and remain on the transplant list for a new pancreas and kidney.

While just surviving and maintaining countless doctors' appointments would be overwhelming and exhausting on its own, Rachel is also a full-time mother. She cares for and nurtures two incredible young girls while Jerry works out of the home to support their family of four (+ several beloved fur babies).

With her pre-existing conditions, COVID brought on an unfair and life-threatening complication to their already complicated lives. Jerry worked at a car dealership for over two years before being let go in early 2022, due to him missing work to help care for Rachel and their girls when she was too sick to do so by herself.

For over six months, Jerry pursued every available job he could. Submitting countless applications that were either ignored or led to interviews that never quite panned out. He finally regained employment at the end of October 2022, and they have been working to dig themselves out of the devastating financial pit while balancing their day-to-day expenses. Because unfortunately, housing, food, and electricity have only gotten more and more expensive with inflation.

The last straw occurred recently when Rachel fell and broke 3 bones in her foot. Even though she is insured, the boot and mobility devices have been denied coverage. Hence this GoFundMe.

Rachel and Jerry need help covering the costs of a boot and a kneeling scooter. With this very limiting injury, Jerry will need to take time off work to help care for Rachel, Rory, and Medli, so they also need assistance covering part of their monthly expenses such as food, rent, power, and internet. Not to mention the impending hospital bill that will eventually show up.

Asking for help is hard for a lot of us, and asking for financial help is even harder. But, as a whole, we cannot get through life without support from one another. Any sort of financial gift will greatly help this family that I love as dearly as my own.

I've set the fundraising goal at $3,000 and will update everything as we get more information. This will help cover the boot, $100, mobility aid, $200, keep food in their home, and go towards their rent, $1,400. Any little bit helps, and is appreciated more than words will ever be able to express.

If you're unable to donate, you can still help by sharing this with your friends and family.
