The Doris Price Project: Help us raise funds for the mural!

Donation protected
Two years ago, I learned about a mural that was created on the front walls of East High School in Rochester, NY. The mural was titled Hidden Figures, and there was actually one hidden figure not represented in the mural: my grandmother Doris Price. The original photograph shows Doris to the left of Malcolm X; however, through the process of the mural coming together, it was decided that Doris would not be included in the final version of the mural. I then learned of an article written by Dave McCleary, “Doris Price, a ‘Hidden Figure’ in Rochester Black History”, and immediately began thinking of ideas and ways to honor her and showcase her activism in the city of Rochester NY so she can be seen and not hidden from history.

I want to showcase the woman that she was and share with the world all of her accomplishments. I want to honor and recognize her through the creation of a mural. I am asking for donations to make this happen. The funding would cover materials, labor, permits, transportation, and other expenses.

Most recently Julie Zigoris was inspired by Doris Price’s story and wrote an article in the Huffington Post titled, The Legacy of Doris Price Will Not. That goes even further to share more details about the whys of my grandmother being left out of the mural.
