ABOUT DR UCHENNA

Dr Uchenna Okoye’s sudden passing has left a tremendous void, and her dream was to always set up a charity that would make a difference and change lives. The Dr Uchenna Tooth Fairy Fund will aim to support the values that Uchenna believed in and were important to her.

Uchenna changed the face of dentistry here in the UK. Hailed as ’trail blazer’ she was one of the UK’s most well-known and prominent cosmetic dentists who worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the importance of oral health and to champion the uplifting and life-enhancing impact of a confident smile.

Uchenna constantly excelled in creating signature designer smiles which earned her the popular sobriquet, ‘the Chanel of dentistry’. Well-known, highly respected, and much loved for her warmth, her ebullient sense of fun, and her meticulous attention to detail, Dr Okoye transformed the sterile world of dentistry, providing a pain-free and fear-free haven where she infused happiness and transformed lives.

The Uchenna sparkle touched the lives of everyone she met and drew her into stardom on the ‘10 Years Younger’ makeover show, followed by ’10 Years Younger in 10 Days’ where her passion and compassion leapt off the screen.

For the last twenty years, her deep knowledge of dentistry and her incredible chair-side manner made her the ‘go-to’ spokeswoman for any kind of dental issue and a popular contributor to radio, TV, and women’s consumer press.

Originally qualifying at the prestigious Guys Dental School London in 1993, Dr Okoye spent two years practising in Brighton before moving on to St George’s Hospital Tooting, where she treated difficult restorative cases referred by other dentists around the country.

She was an active industry spokesperson for the industry, working with the British Dental Association, and she was also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists and was invited to the US to lecture to elite dentists at the eminent Spears Academy, passing on her skills at using technical and creative alternatives to veneers.

The Dr. Uchenna Smile Foundation aims to empower individuals and communities through strategic financial contributions and scholarships. The objectives of the foundation are:

1. Empowering Black Women in Dentistry

Provide bursaries and financial assistance to black women from less fortunate backgrounds, enabling them to pursue and complete their education in dentistry.

2. Fostering Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry:

Support adopted children through educational bursaries, encouraging them to excel in their studies and pursue a career in cosmetic dentistry.

3. Community Dental Health Initiatives:

Collaborate with dental professionals and organisations to conduct outreach programs and educational campaigns promoting dental health in underserved communities.

4. Research and Innovation in Dental Science:

Foster innovation and advancements in dental science by providing grants and funding for research projects that enhance dental care and technology.

5. Professional Development and Training:

Sponsor training sessions, workshops, and conferences to enhance the skills and knowledge of dental professionals, ensuring they stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in dentistry.

6. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion:

Encourage diversity within the dental profession by supporting initiatives that promote inclusivity, equal opportunities, and representation of minority groups.

7. Collaborations and Partnerships:

Establish partnerships with educational institutions, dental associations, and governmental bodies to expand the reach and impact of the fund, fostering a collaborative approach toward improving dental care and education.
