The Duncan Family through this hardship.

Hi, my name is Brenda Alvarado, and I am asking for help for my daughter (Mercedes), so -in-law (Corey), and grandchildren, (Caiden, Caisen, and Callen). My daughter gave birth to her 3rd child, Callen Bentley, on New Year’s Day at 35 weeks. The baby and my daughter seemed to be doing okay and were discharged on January 3rd. They had Callen home for just a few hours before having to rush him to the Children’s Hospital due to him spitting up bile. From 4:30AM-6PM on the 4th, the ER nurses, doctors, and surgery team ran so many tests all day long, but couldn’t quite catch why this was happening. On January 5th, the surgery team decided to go ahead and go forward with an Exploratory Surgery that day. They began surgery at 2:00PM, and Callen was back in the NICU by 3:45PM. Callen was on a ventilator, had an epidural put in, IV for nutrition(which they had to change out several times from each hands, feet, and the last one was on his head), an ostomy bag, and a few days later, he received a PICC Line on his left leg, so they did not have to keep poking all of his body. The day after his surgery, Mercedes’ blood pressure began sky rocketing as well as her heart rate, and unfortunately she collapsed at the Children’s hospital. She was transferred to a near Hospital where they ran a lot of tests on her heart, lungs, and brain. Nothing was ever resolved, and Mercedes is not allowed to be left alone right now, as she has episodes of Near Syncope. Mercedes is also dealing with other postpartum complications at this time, but the doctors are not figuring anything out. Corey has been a rockstar at taking Care of Mercedes and the boys. I was blessed to be sent to Pittsburgh to help them with Caiden and Caisen. Unfortunately, my time is nearing for me to leave my family here all by themselves. Corey is unable to work right now as he cannot leave Mercedes alone, especially to tend to the baby with an ostomy bag. His paid medical leave ends January 30th, and then he will be stuck with nothing. The baby still has 6 more weeks before his next surgery, and then the baby will be in the hospital again for recovery. Mercedes is also unable to drive at this time, so Corey will have to stay out of work during the next surgery and recovery. This family needs help. Both Mercedes and Corey’s side of the family are helping as much as possible to be there for them, but with no one close by to them, it is really stressful. We are asking for as much help as possible for this sweet family. Please, anything will help them. We thank you all in advance and please keep them in your prayers. May God Bless You All.
