The Exceptional Day of Play

The Exceptional Day of Play is an organization catered to providing accessible activities to children with special needs in Long Beach. Each event features activities universally designed for kids of all abilities. The Exceptional Day of Play is equipped for improving children’s fine motor skills and engaging their senses. Our events include sensory bins, water play, arts and crafts, and interactive games, accessible for all children. The Exceptional Day of Play was founded by two High School students, Alexa King and Peyton Beeli, with an intention of creating a safe space for children with special needs and their families. EDP events construct an inclusive environment for kids of all ages and abilities!
Funds raised for these events will go towards providing accessible games and activities for children of ALL abilities, including tactile and sensory play, accessible art, and music for every child, regardless of their disabilities.
Alexa’s younger sister, Chloe, has Angelman Syndrome, a rare and severe genetic disorder. Growing up with a sibling who has special needs presents moments of complete and utter joy; smiles are contagious and laughter is endless. However, it can also present many challenges. EDP’s co-founder, Alexa said, “I saw a requisite in the community, not just for my sister, but for all kids with diverse needs in our area”. To fill this aperture, Alexa and Peyton co-founded the Exceptional Day of Play. Our team is run by high school students who are dedicated to bettering the community they live in.
Since our first “Day of Play” in June 2018, we have had several events, and an accumulation of over 500 guests in attendance. Thank you to our community members for your continued support, and we look forward to many more “Days of Play”!
