"The Fabrik" Burning Man Sculpture Fundraiser

As some of you already know, we (Brad and Katie), have been working on a special new art project that has been in development for the past couple of years and has finally hit a point where we are ready to share it with the world.

We are so excited and honored to launch our new art project, The Fabrik. Just three days before art applications closed for Burning Man, Katie and I decided to apply to be part of the incredible Burning Man art community, and had our artwork accepted days later. For the first time after 8 years of attending Burning Man, we are contributing to this incredible project in an official way!

THE FABRIK

The piece we're bringing to Burning Man, named "The Fabrik", will be a 14 ft tall stainless steel monolith with a font we designed cut into the surface of the sculpture. The font is designed using special mathematical principles, including the Golden Ratio, and has a futuristic and alien-like feel to it. The font is legible to those who are willing to study it, but takes time to figure out.

Lights will turn on within the sculpture at sundown each night, and turn off at sunrise each morning. Light will shine through the font, projecting onto the ground surrounding the sculpture.

In addition to the lights, the incredibly talented producer 47th Ghost, Wes Batts, is producing a 10hr+ audio track using analog synthesizers, based on the same mathematical principles and sound frequencies that went into the development of the font.

The piece is designed to slow people down, enjoy its presence, and contemplate the future we are quickly falling into.

WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO

The money raised will go to the purchase of materials, manufacturing, assistance, and transportation of the sculpture. Materials include large amounts of stainless steel tubing and sheet, electrical, lighting, batteries, inverters, solar panels, and sound equipment that are robust enough to survive 12 days at Burning Man. Any money raised over the goal will be used to help fund bringing the sculpture to other events, and future art projects for Fabrik.
