THE STORY
Logline: An accomplished ad executive's life unravels when her charming new boyfriend's true abusive nature emerges, leaving her trapped in a dangerous relationship.

Synopsis
In 'The Fairytale Became a Nightmare,' we follow Tessa, a rising advertising executive aiming to become a partner at Remnant Ad Agency. Her life seems picturesque until she meets Karter, a skilled manipulator who portrays himself as a successful and charming partner. As their relationship heads down a dangerous path, the once-promising connection between them turns into a volatile situation. Tessa must break free with Amanda's support. This film delves into the harrowing reality of domestic abuse and the courage for the those who dare to be free.

MOTIVATION:
This endeavor is more than just a project; it's a deeply personal dream that has been nurtured in my heart for countless years. As a first-time writer and director, I find myself on the brink of bringing awareness to life through my first short film. My decision to share my story as a survivor of domestic violence adds a layer of profound significance to this endeavor.

Between 2011 and 2015, I found myself ensnared in what initially seemed like a fairytale romance. However, as I spent more time with this man, the dream turned into a nightmare. Feeling trapped and helpless, despite my friends and family being aware of the situation and urging me to break free from the chains that bound me, I couldn't find the strength to leave. His toxic behavior began to affect my career and finances. Every attempt to break free was met with his persuasive words, keeping me stuck. Eventually, a tragic event became the catalyst for the relationship to end. Now, I strive to be a voice for the voiceless, encouraging women to seek assistance. If this project can impact just one woman, I would consider it a significant achievement.

Consider this alarming fact: nearly 20 women per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States, totaling over 10 million women in just one year. I stand as a testament to those statistics, and this film serves as my way to shed light on this critical issue. Everyone deserves a healthy relationship.

"The Fairytale Became a Nightmare" is on the brink of production, with independent producers and me stepping into the director's chair. We've meticulously refined the script to minimize expenses, ensuring that every donation plays a pivotal role in realizing our vision. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
Years ago, I created a television series and a detailed show bible that fueled my love for storytelling. This journey allowed me to explore the nuances of creating engaging narratives and developing vibrant characters, deepening my appreciation for the creative process. Along the way, I had the opportunity to shadow a director on a film project, gaining invaluable insight. I was inspired by a clip I saw of Ava DuVernay talking about directing; she said, 'Just start.' That's precisely what I'm doing. Now, I've united with a team of dedicated and passionate women who, like me, are committed to raising awareness about domestic violence. Together, we're organizing a two-day shoot in Los Angeles. With a capable and experienced team supporting me, we're wholeheartedly committed to bringing this project to life on screen.

MISSION:
Our approach for "The Fairytale Became a Nightmare" includes enlisting platforms like Film Freeway to submit the short film to multiple festivals for 2024. Moreover, we're working towards partnering with a sales agent to secure a distribution deal, with the goal of featuring the short film on major platforms like HBO, Netflix, ALL BLK, Tubi, Shorts TV and Sundance. Simultaneously, we're actively pursing for festival accolades and forging partnerships with domestic violence foundations.

All our friends and family who generously supported this project will be credited in the end title sequence of the film.

The Fairytale Became a Nightmare team sincerely appreciates your time and consideration.

Cheyenne Martin
