Help Leyla Recover Medical & Financial Expenses

Hi my name is Tamekia Smith. I am a close family friend and Cheer Coach of Ashley & Leandre daughter’s. On December 23, approximately 4:20pm, the family of 5 was traveling on I-85 Northbound near Shallowford Road in Chamblee. The family was hit by a speeding vehicle which caused a multiple crash scene. Mother Ashley went immediately unconscious due to the full speed impact of the hit. She was taken to hospital by ambulance where she was diagnosed with a concussion. The oldest daughter Kari (8) was taken to Eggleston by ambulance also. Kari suffered a broken ankle where she had to undergo surgery. The youngest daughter Leyla (7) unfortunately received the biggest impact of the tragic wreck and was immediately rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Eggleston hospital. Upon arrival to the hospital, it was discovered that Leyla had to undergo emergency brain surgery due to her unresponsiveness and major swelling in the brain.
Leyla is still in the hospital currently on life support fighting while the doctors have her medically sedated. She has since had some great progression, however the swelling in the brain is increasing. Leyla has a long recovery process ahead including physical therapy. Some of the aftermath problems that could occur with this type of trauma is , memory loss and problems with motor skills just to name a few. While this tragedy happened less than 48 hours before the Christmas Holidays, it has taken a tremendous toll on this family with 3 of them receiving medical care. The car was completely totaled, this now in need of a vehicle for the father of the three kids to travel back and forth to the hospital to sit with Leyla and provide support for Ashley as she hasn’t left her bedside.
Everything happened so quickly, but the best team of doctors have been anything less than amazing keeping the parents calm as possible even though that’s the hardest thing any parent could fathom having to bare, witness, and sit through. Leyla will in fact have to remain in the hospital for several more weeks and will have to be monitored around the clock. Please keep the family in prayer.
While both parents have very demanding full time jobs and being the sole provider for this family, neither is able to return to work. Dad is home nursing the oldest daughter as she can’t walk. Mom is sitting at the helm of her daughter’s hospital bed 24-7, tired, stressed, hungry, emotional, and traumatized from the wreck. My goal is to raise money for the family to assist with monthly household expenses, transportation expenses as well as expenses they will incur medically during the stay at CHOA. The medical expenses will be the absolute largest expense this family will receive being the fact that three patients had to be seen during this horrific and near death tragedy. The goal is to keep this family from having to worry about finances at this current moment and focus on the healing process of their children in which they are all traumatized from the incident.
Keeping this family together during this holiday season and emotional time is my goal. If you can’t donate, please send your love and prayers!!
We appreciate your love and support. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!
If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Leyla, she is the light in a dark room. She’s that breath of fresh air. She’s full of energy and this little wildfire is loved by so many. She LOVES cheerleading and tumbling, her cheer sisters, she loves to dance. She loves dolls and stuffed animals. She loves a good challenge. She loved her parents and siblings unconditionally. She is the life of the party and it’s nothing she believes she can’t do.
