The family of my friend & colleague James Rushton

Hello my name is Trevor. I have set this up in order to try and raise some funds for the family of my recently deceased work colleague and dear friend James Rushton. James tragically passed away suddenly, and unexpectedly in May, aged just 40.

James leaves a wife Nikki and two lovely young children aged 9 and 11. Nikki along with everything else she is going through will be concerned over future finances. I am hoping that we can raise some money to at least ease the burden a little on this side of things.

James worked with me at Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council as a Groundsman. He was a much valued colleague with a work ethic second to none. He took a real pride in looking after the grounds of Bishops Waltham. He was a real family man, and family always came first. James was a wonderful father, idolised by his children. He was really just a big kid himself, and in my experience children just gravitated towards him. I think they could sense that he was one of them at heart.

I worked with James for 13 years, and over this time he became a valued and trusted friend. James was universally liked by everyone who was lucky enough to know him, or even to have just met him whilst he was out and about on his mower. He always had a cheery smile, and had a wicked sense of humour. James was always willing to help anyone he knew, or indeed didn’t know. James default setting was ‘can I help?’.

The phrase ‘he was one of the best’ is often used about a person. Well, James really was one of the very best, and he really would help anyone he could. He was a special man.

So, I am hoping in doing this we can help him back, by helping Nikki and the children just a bit. So I ask anyone who knew James, or simply met him along the way, or indeed never even met him, if you could find your way to making a contribution.

Well, we all said goodbye to James yesterday. Thanks again to everyone for your donations. We got to £4,500, which is fantastic. Maybe we can go that bit more to reach £5,000!
