Sarah Ruth Armstrong, age 47, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024. She was born on March 14, 1977, in Hammond, Indiana, to Gary and Robin (Wood) Nawrocki.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Derek Armstrong; daughter, Hannah Armstrong; son, Miles Armstrong; mother, Robin Hensley; brother, Shawn (Margaret) Nawrocki; five sisters, Ashley Hensley, Marcia (Joseph) Stasko, Kristal Tomlinson, Nikki (Bill) Johnson, Tina Nawrocki; cousin, Trisha Hill; mother-in-law, Diana Armstrong; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ryan Ly; and father, Gary Nawrocki.
Sarah graduated from Hammond High School, class of 1995 and attended Ball State University. She moved to San Diego, California in late 1999 where she met one of her best friends, Linda Garcia. Sarah made many life-long friendships while in California and cherished her time there. Sarah moved back to Chicago in early 2003 and lived in the Wrigleyville neighborhood for several years before meeting the love of her life, Derek Armstrong in early 2006. Derek and Sarah went to a Cubs game on their first date and quickly fell completely head over heels for each other. They welcomed their first child, Hannah in July 2007 and moved to Chesterton, Indiana to raise their budding family. Their son Miles was born in March 2010. Sarah was a fiercely protective mother. Hannah and Miles were her life and lit up her entire world. Sarah put her career aside to devote all her time to caring for their children. She was a regular volunteer in the schools and took great pride in being involved in all facets of their lives.
Sarah was an extremely talented artist who loved music and often showcased her beautiful voice for those who were lucky enough to hear. She especially loved singing Karaoke during a night out with good friends. She traveled near and far, never missing a chance to see one of her favorite bands perform live. She was avid reader and vacation planner who loved spending time with her family. She was also a fantastic cook and baker, who specialized in making delicious pies for her grateful son.
Fashion was one of Sarah’s great passions. She loved nothing more than putting together outfits and often shared them over her Social Media accounts. It wasn’t her career, but Sarah was a well-known influencer for several of her favorite brands of shoes and clothing.
Sarah’s actual career was also a passion as a Human Resources Generalist at MCP, USA Inc. Sarah had recently been promoted and was very excited about her new role and responsibilities.
Sarah will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
