Seth Bartlett and family

On Saturday, July 15th, Seth suffered multiple head injuries after falling from over 10 feet in the air.

He was rushed to UW hospital after Med-Flight could not transport due to severe fog. The Middelton Ambulance met Sauk Prairie ambulance on the side of the road to intubate and to induce a medical coma. Seth arrived at UW hospital and was taken directly to the operating room where the best team of surgeons were waiting to perform emergency surgery. This wonderful team went in blind and performed a craniotomy to repair several hemorrhages (one hemmorage was suppressing his spinal column) and a craniectomy to remove a small section of skull to alleviate the swelling of the brain. They reconstructed his skull to the best of their ability.

Seth will remain in UW Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit for at least the next month. He has responded to the doctors commands and squeezed his mothers hand in recognition, but is heavily sedated and intubated to help reduce brain swelling. Seth will also need another brain surgery to repair his skull to protect his brain. This surgery can’t be performed for months as he has a left fractal bone skull fracture, skull base fracture extending to right occipital condyle, basilar artery dissection and few small hematoma that couldn’t be accessed. These fractures need to heal before they can repair his skull safely. ENT and Ophthalmology will need to be consulted after the immediate danger from the brain trauma. There is no way the doctors can assess at this time the degree of impairment to his brain, vision, or nasal/sinus function.

The team of doctors who are providing the best care we could ask for say this will be a long, long recovery even after the hospital part. We believe we will need special brain rehab for months as well. The brain is very hard to predict and only time will tell.

We are raising money for medical, transportation costs for his family, and anything else that may come up so that they can focus on the most important thing which is being there for Seth.

There is also a CaringBridge link for updates: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sethbartlett

The family appreciates everyone's concern and well wishes but ask to please refer to the above link for updates and not reach out directly to the family as they are currently being overwhelmed with information and need to focus on Seth. This link will be updated when the family has news of Seth’s long road to recovery.
