The Feast @ Burning Man: A Dinner for 1000 in service to a hunger-free world
Burning Man is not just one of the greatest celebrations on Earth--It has become a global moment of resourcefulness, community building, and mind bending creativity that we need if we are to thrive in the face of humanities existential crises. For all of us, it’s critical that we remember that we have the opportunity and the responsibility to make an impact in our local communities.
The Feast is a sunset dinner ritual and sacred celebration of food and beauty in service to a hunger-free world.
Hosted by Burners without Borders on The Esplanade, we will come together to honor each other in the most basic of human rituals--eating together. Thursday, August 29th at sunset, we will share a moment of mindfulness acknowledging the privilege of being at Burning Man and the millions globally who are hungry. We will serve one another a simple meal while hearing from chefs and activists doing visionary work in helping to eliminate global hunger.
The Feast is a call and a reminder to all of us that we have the opportunity and responsibility to bring the magic, ethos, and impact of Burning Man into our daily lives. For each meal served at The Feast a similar meal will be gifted to FoodShift.net , an Oakland organization that serves food insecure communities--creating a tangible portal of impact between Burning Man and the Default world.
Come Help us create a beautiful celebration of Burning Man’s positive impact on the world.
About Food Shift: Food Shift works collaboratively with communities, businesses and governments to develop sustainable solutions that reduce wasted food and hunger.
Together we are making a huge impact (and throwing a great party)!
Like Burning Man itself, the Feast is an epic example of community creativity and resourcefulness. The more we are able to self-source everything needed for the event--the more money (and food) we can contribute to Food Shift.
What are we using funds for?
60% of funds raised will go directly to supporting the operating budget of Food Shift.
The other 40% will help us produce the event. We hope that the vast majority of our expenses can be covered by in-kind contributions from camps and others inspired to contribute.
Here are our anticipated expenses (we are also hoping for in-kind contributions for most of this):
Food--$2,000+ (to produce 2000 meals!)
Pre-playa Kitchen Rental--$600
Rentals and Event Supplies(Tables, Pots, Burners, Compostable Plates)--$1000
Sound System, Electricity, Event Supplies--$900
Refrigeration and Transport--$3500
