The Fight For My Health

I’m starting this fundraiser on behalf of my Aunt Sonia Thompson. Sonia had not been feeling well for several months between 2020 and 2021. Due to the fear of COVID-19, she did not seek medical attention right away. When she finally went to the doctor in 2021 , she was diagnosed with uncontrolled hypertension, which had already caused damage to her kidneys. In just a few short weeks later, she became severely short of breath, which required for her to be hospitalized. During that hospital stay, she was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease, requiring dialysis. This news was devastating, considering that she was the main provider for her household which included her daughter and grandchildren. She then started to receive dialysis in her home country of Jamaica. Unfortunately, this treatment had to be paid for out of pocket. She paid for it from the savings that she had and with the help of friends and family. The initial prognosis was that she would be required just a couple months of dialysis and should see much improvement, that was not the case. Due to the cost of treatment, she could no longer receive the recommended treatment of three times a week, but instead only twice a week.After two years, her health drastically declined. She became severely anemic but did not qualify for any transfusions because of the blood reserves in Jamaica. She then had no choice but to seek medical treatment briefly in the United States. This was a tremendous blessing because she was able to receive some required blood transfusions, and had a new port placed for continued treatment. She is not a resident of the US and will be returning home soon. This thought is dreadful because she does not know where the funding will come from to continue the required treatment once back home. I’m a pleading to you, to please help her in any away that you can. Our family would be extremely grateful for anything that you could donate.
