Vivian Wittmayer

Vivian is a fun loving, positive, sweet, witty, kind 13 year old girl from the Lead-Deadwood area. She is the youngest of 4 siblings. She enjoys art, crafting, her 3 dogs and hanging with friends and family. She will be going into the 8th grade this year and she excels in her school work. This young lady has a bright future ahead. In June 2020, Vivian was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma. Its a bone cancer than effects young people ages 10-20. It is treated with aggressive chemo, radiation and surgeries. She went to Mayo in Rochester, Minnesota for lots of tests and scans, as well as several biopsies. We got the call June 30th that it was indeed cancer and it had spread to several places, and she would need to go back to Mayo to have more extensive tests and a major surgery. July 6th she started her testing which included several MRIs, CT scans, an echocardiogram, PET scans and numerous other tests and meetings with doctors. July 17th she had a 6 procedure surgery which left her healing in the hospital for 5 days. After 17 days we finally got to come home.  July 31st she had her first of many rounds of chemo. She did well and is staying positive. We have many more treatment of chemo and radiation coming up. She will have to relocate to Sioux Falls from her home in Lead, SD for 8 weeks for some of these treatments. There will be numerous trips from home to Sanford children’s hospital in Sioux Falls and to Mayo in Rochester, MN. These trips will be about every two weeks until late March of 2021. As many know cancer of any kind is hard on not just the person but family and friends too. We are hoping to raise money for travel expenses, to help with keeping up her home, the ever mounting medical bills, and the aftercare that will be required. So far the very first 4 day trip for testing, meetings and biopsies cost over $33,000. We have no idea what the surgery, the chemo, the radiation, and the numerous hospital stays are going to cost.
