Running to support children's future!

On September 15th, 2019 I will be running the Blackmores Sydney Marathon in Sydney, Australia. The completion of the Blackmores Sydney Marathon will fulfill my goal of running a marathon in 7 continents of the world. By the end of this year, I will have completed 11 marathons in 11 years, 6 of which are part of the World Marathon Majors and the rest are in other continents of the world.
For my final continent marathon, I am raising funds for two non-profit organizations that support children by providing long-term stability, in terms of housing, education, and basic needs.
The first organization is Haiti Children's Home , located just outside of Mirebalais, the town in Haiti where I lived and worked last year. Haiti Children’s Home was founded in 1984 to care for malnourished children. It is currently home to over 60 children. Last year, I baked at the home once a month with the children. Not only did that give me a chance to connect with the children, it also made me realize the stark disparities that continue to exist in parts of the world where food, shelter, and clothing are scarce. As I spent more time with the children, I learned from them, how to be patient, kind, and happy, even in the midst of so many uncertainties.
The second organization is The Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, which houses children ages 0 to 22 years of age. The Home for Little Wanderers has multiple locations in various parts of Massachusetts. I volunteered at The Home for Little Wanderers for almost ten years. Along with a group of volunteers, I baked and conducted craft activities with the children once a month. The Home for Little Wanderers instilled in me, the love for baking with children, as I realized how much joy it brought to children as they sprinkled cupcakes with confetti and learned to break eggs. The simple things in life can bring a lot of happiness and that is what baking did for the children and me.
A small portion of the funds raised will also be used to cover my expenses for the marathon such as travel and registration costs. The majority of the funds raised will be evenly distributed to Haiti Children’s Home and The Home for Little Wanderers.
