LA Fires have taken Everything. Support the Lathans.

Family and Friends -

Thankfully the Lathan Family - Tendaji, Ayanna, Hideo, and Jalen are SAFE. They were forced to evacuate their home Tuesday night in the Eaton Canyon Fire. The structure of

their home remains standing but is currently uninhabitable. Every home on either side of the street has been lost except for their home and the neighbors on one side.

Although we are grateful that they will eventually be able to return, they are being displaced indefinitely from their home in the devastating LA Country Fires. They will have to find a place to live. Moreover, everything inside their home is damaged by deep-embedded fire smoke. Unfortunately, Ayanna’s job will provide unpaid leave, thus all her time to deal with this situation will not be paid.

Kaila (Ayanna’s Cousin) is organizing this fundraiser to provide the Lathan’s with support.

How Your Support Will Help:

Immediate Support- Clothing, toiletries, and essential items. They were able to take very little with them, and most of their belongings have been damaged by smoke and soot.

Temporary Housing- While the Family will be able to eventually return to their home, it will not be for many months. Insurance is underway to help with temporary housing it does not cover the deposit (which includes the first and last month's rent).

Jalen’s school remains standing and is expected to reopen when possible. Like so many other parents who have lost their homes, temporary housing with this consideration is a priority for the family to help them maintain a small part of normalcy.

Ayanna and Tendaji are proud Altadena residents. This home represents their foundation and commitment to contribute to the well-established Black community in the area. Insurance will cover fire remediation and temporary housing, but the Lathans must still maintain their mortgage payments.
