The First Rosalie Sorrels Annual Memorial Festival
Donation protected
In loving memory of my mother, Rosalie Sorrels, we are launching the first Rosalie Sorrels Annual Memorial Music Festival, June 22 – 23, 2019, at Captain Harry’s Oasis Event Center just outside of Boise in Mountain Home, Idaho. Our vision is to create a musical gathering--much like the incredible annual Kate Wolf Festival, now celebrating its 24th year, at the end of June in Laytonville, California (https://www.katewolfmusicfestival.com) -- including a stellar lineup of musical artists, camping, evening fireside song circles, and arts and crafts and food vendors that will celebrate my mother’s life and legacy through music, not only this year, but in the years ahead. This kind of gathering was my mother's dream while she was alive. We had many conversations about it---and are now putting those talks into action. Joining us in organizing this inaugural event is our good friend and a driving force behind this effort, Sarah Williams. We are turning to you, our wonderful musical community, for help in making this happen!
Our plan
As most of you know, there are lots of moving parts involved in organizing a two-day music festival, especially one we hope continues to grow each year. The goal of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise $10,000 total with half ($5000) applied to the initial upfront costs for this year’s festival and the remaining $5000 to apply to costs toward the festival next year and beyond. These costs include site rental, event insurance, musician compensation, sound set-up and engineering, logo and poster design and printing, security, festival restroom facilities, festival t-shirt design and printing, food for musicians and staff, and many of the other details that go into hosting events of this size. We have a ticket sale goal of 200 at $50/ticket. These funds plus the $5000 from the GoFundMe campaign will allow us to cover all the costs of this first festival.
*UPDATE: We are thrilled to announce that as of mid-April, we have, in 2 short weeks, raised over $1300 toward the half-way goal of $5000! THANK YOU to all of our donors! Your gift of any size will help us raise the remaining $3700 to help support the First Annual Rosalie Sorrels Memorial Music Festival taking place this June!
We have received a very enthusiastic response from our call for musical performers, many from the Boise area and Western U.S. and many inquiries from all over the United States. From this group we have put together a stellar musical lineup:

Arts and crafts and food vendors will also be on hand. Vendors are welcome to set up arts and crafts booths with the purchase of a $100 registration available online for up to two individuals staffing the booth. Additional staff must purchase a $50 festival ticket. (If you are a vendor, please be sure to leave a message on the ticket purchase page noting you are a vendor.) We will work via social media and our musical and media contacts--in particular in the Boise area and throughout Idaho--to spread the news about the festival.
We need your help!
We are aiming for an attendance of 200 this year, which we think is achievable. With your help, the funds from the sale of 200 tickets and this GoFundMe campaign will allow us to meet the expenses of our first festival, with seed money remaining to start early planning for next year’s event.
Gifts of any size will help us establish the Rosalie Sorrels Annual Memorial Music Festival as a fitting legacy for a beloved American folk legend, and as a tribute to, and a way to carry on the musical tradition my mother loved so much.
Please share this page with anyone you think might be interested.
Thank you for whatever help you can offer! Hope to see you at the festival in June!
