The Food Sermon

Donation protected

The Food Sermon Started in Crown Heights Brooklyn, New York in February of 2015.  I didn't set out to open a restaurant, it was only suppose to be a tiny catering kitchen that served a little food to the public.

Before opening The Food Sermon I was cooking out of my tiny apartment kitchen for my clients. This mean't everyday was like thanksgiving in my home, which turn out not sustainable. With the encouragement of my family I found a little space to build a kitchen.

Soon after opening , to our surprise our customers came from far and wide expecting to sit, eat and hangout.  The Food Sermon became so popular we had change from catering as our primary service,  to a fast casual restaurant model.

Two years after opening we were selected for an opportunity to build a larger kitchen in The Brooklyn Navy Yard. This larger space would allow us to have a retail side, a catering side and a hot sauce manufacturing side.   After three years of ups and downs we were finally able to open our new space.  We were on a roll and things were going well and then covid-19  abruptly interrupted our momentum.

We had to temporarily closed our kitchen soon after.

The hardest thing I have ever had to do was laying off our employees.  The second hardest thing is actually asking you for help.  Your donations will aid our workers with their living expenses and basic needs. I feel uncomfortable asking for your help, because I recognize that we are all hurting badly.  You too are uncertain about your tomorrow.

As a chef, my favorite customers are the ones that show up hungry to our door after we have closed for the day and have nothing left.  They are expecting our offerings to be available, which by this time are long gone, but somehow I am able to find a way to feed them.  Our industry's foundation is the act of service to others; meeting people where they are is what fuels us.   My employees are hurting and I feel helpless.  It is very heartbreaking not being able to help those who have worked hard to help execute my vision.

Please help our hard working women and man in this uncertain time.

With my heart filled with gratitude I  thank you for your donations to this campaign.
