Please help the People of Centauro in Acuna, Mex
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Bart Young, the founder of The Lift Collaborative, a non-profit organization, and pastor of Breakpoint Community Church in Hackettstown, NJ. Last April, I visited Del Rio, TX/Acuna, Mexico, with a team from my church, ministering to people along both sides of the border. Through a schedule change, God providentially led us to Centauro, a home for people with disabilities and struggling with addiction. Most of these people would be on the streets of Acuna if it weren’t for this shelter because the government does not provide any assistance. When we arrived, we saw a place that was in total disarray. The people were not being fed, and the facilities were not liveable. Roofs leaked, the septic was not functioning correctly, mold and mildew covered much of the facilities, the kitchen had no hot water, the bedding was filthy, and many slept on the concrete floors. The shelter’s leadership had left unexpectedly and made no arrangements for the continued support of the shelter. A few volunteers were trying to keep it going but did not have the resources to run it properly. These people were so hungry they were fighting for more food. The entire place was in crisis. Once you see something like this, you cannot unsee it, and my heart was broken for these people. I believe that we now have the responsibility to partner together to fix these atrocious living conditions for these forgotten people.
The Lift Collaborative is partnering with Breakpoint Church, Young Living Stones, Centauro, and other ministries/churches to make the facilities livable. We have devised a plan to build a new shower house, fix existing bathrooms, set in a new septic, repair roofs, and build a food pantry to store food properly. We also plan to alleviate many health issues by installing a new water filtration system, providing hot water for the kitchen, cleaning all living areas, and providing new bedding.
We are praying for 40,000 to 50,000 to cover the cost of these projects. You can find the estimated cost projections on our website, theliftcollaborative.net. Unlike most non-profit organizations, 100% of your donation goes directly to the projects listed. We are trying to decrease expenses by finding dedicated, capable volunteer teams to do most of the work. The volunteers are generously agreeing to pay for their travel expenses to work on these projects. All donations will make a difference! Please share this urgent need with friends and family. We would also love to partner with other churches and organizations. Thank you!
