the FUNk-Raiser

Marvin (AKA the Fly), a man who continues to contribute to and support the Calgary music scene, now faces a warrior's journey of healing.

Confirmed a few weeks ago with Tonsil Carcinoma, this beautiful man who makes beautiful music will be undergoing cancer treatment for the coming months.

With the financial pressure of the pre-treatment medical preparation (ie. dental, medications), transportation to and from treatments and appointments, personal home-care during recovery, and basic monthly living expenses at a time when he won't be playing music,  we have set up this "Funk-Raiser" GoFundMe campaign.

Any financial donation, big or small is greatly appreciated by the family, and the Fly.

A note from the sisters:

We understand you all want to show support and care for our brother.  We ask for time and space for recovery, relaxation and healing during this time (39 rounds of radiation therapy, over 6 weeks) and the coming months post- treatment, for our brother to get back to what he loves to do, for you all.

A note from the Fly:

"I just wanted to let you all know that it’s treatable and not to worry.

So please refrain from the sad 'he's gonna die' face. It'll be fine. Looks like I’m up against a few months of hell though. I’m gonna be strapped down tight for the next six weeks (five days a week for 20min) undergoing radiation treatment to the left side of my face. And it ain’t gonna be pretty. I’ll be akin to the Toxic Avenger with the possible temporary side effects of fatigue, swelling, trouble swallowing, loss of weight, neck burn, and saliva drooling down my pretty boy face.

I just felt it only fair to notify you and to do my best to update you with the progress of the treatments and my recovery. Instead of perceiving this as a horrific scenario of a death sentence, I plan on embracing this as a positive experience, a test of patience, persistence, perseverance and survival.

I fucking love all of you. ❤️

Ps. I’m still in the studio creating and recording new beautiful sounds for LA MOSCA and FLYTRAP. So don’t worry, the music still prevails."
