Geller Family: Asher's HLHS Journey

This is my lovely niece and nephew, Hanna and Aaron Geller, with their sweet daughters, Ariyah and Hadassah. Hanna and Aaron are expecting a baby boy now, and at his 20-week ultrasound, the doctors saw that his heart wasn’t developing the way it should. In the weeks that followed, the diagnosis of Hypo-Plastic Left Heart syndrome (HLHS) was confirmed. He is going to need at least three surgeries to correct this in order to survive. The first will be at 2 or 3 days old after he is born in mid-June. The second is at around 4-6 months old. Then the third surgery will be approximately 2-4 years old.

 

The recovery time from his first surgery will be at least a month's stay in the hospital. Aaron and Hanna will be staying at the hospital with him, while their daughters will be in the care of grandparents. The hospital is a 2-hour drive from home, so Aaron won’t be able to work during this time.
