The Gift of Life for Efren
Donation protected
Efren Perez joined the Clarkstown Central School District Family in 2019 as a mechanic in the Transportation Department. His dedication to his job was evidenced immediately, he takes pride in doing his job well and working as team with his coworkers. He quickly became a valued member of the Transportation Department.
What many did not know, Efren was silently struggling with kidney disease and had been on dialysis for the past 8 years and on a list for a transplant. Besides receiving treatments three times a week, feeling tired, worried about his deteriorating health & if he would be able to continue to provide for his family; he came to work everyday with a positive attitude.
Unfortunately, Efren and his family were dealt another devasting blow earlier this year when he contracted COVID and almost lost his life. Thankfully, Efren survived his battle with COVID and was able to return to work shortly after being released from the hospital.
After all that Efren and his family have endured, they finally got the call that there was a kidney for him. Efren received, The Gift of Life, a new kidney on March 7th. The procedure was a success, he is doing extremely well and now at home recouping with his family.
The recovery period for this procedure is typically 3 to 4 months. During this time Efren will not be receiving a salary, as he is unable to work. His “work family” is starting this fund to help offset living cost for the next few months…So, Efren can focus on his recovery, regain his strength, and get back to work!
