The Gift of Walking Back to Bill Blackwell

My name is Brett and I am fundraising for William (better known as Bill) Blackwell. I have worked beside Bill for many years at a local store in Amherstburg, Ontario. I hope with the help of this GoFundMe we can help give Bill the support he needs in this tough period of life.

Bill’s Story

Bill underwent a back surgery in recent years, and while waiting 30 hours on a stretcher at the hospital before surgery Bill lost feeling in his left leg and foot. Bill developed a callus on his left foot due to weight bearing primarily on his left side overtime. The callus eventually split open and became infected. The infection unfortunately led to Bill’s amputation.

On February 28th, 2025, Bill had to undergo the first surgery for removal of his toes on his left foot to hopefully save his foot and leg. It was determined post-operatively after Bill's first surgery that his foot was not able to be saved. Bill’s second surgery was March 08, 2025, that was below the knee amputation that included the loss of his foot and most of the shin on his left leg. Bill’s total hospitalization time was a total of 3 weeks, from the end of February to early March, 2025 and left Bill a new amputee.

Bill is a very energetic, outgoing man, who continually cares about everyone with his whole heart. He is always open to helping others and working on a new project whether that be at work or at his own home. He is a master in his craft and enjoys a great laugh whether at someone's jokes or his own.

Collection of Funds

I am fundraising for Bill to help him and his family cover expenses including lost wages from being off work, medical equipment not covered by insurance and the hope of a prosthetic leg in the near future. Bill is estimated to be off work from 12-18 weeks. With the help of his health care team, he is looking at receiving more information about the prosthetic in early April.

All donations will be given directly to Bill, helping him cover what he needs currently and all future expenses.
