The Glaze Family

Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Carolyn, in this case, Auntie Carolyn, and I've launched this fundraiser to support my niece and her family through an incredibly difficult time.

One week ago, on June 17, 2023, my sweet, generous, hard-working niece, Madisen Glaze went into labor at just 22 weeks into her pregnancy with fraternal twin boys. Upon arriving at the hospital and for the next 36 hours, she and her wonderful husband Dylan were told that it was very unlikely their babies would survive birth, and life outside of the womb as babies born before 24 weeks of age have typically not developed strong enough systems to survive. As you can imagine, they were crushed.

For over 36 hours, they pursued with heavy hearts, while the amazing medical teams supporting them managed to hold off the twin's births, in hopes that just a little more time would provide critical strengthening for the boys. During this time Madisen and Dylan were repeatedly faced with the harsh reality that they would be giving birth to children that would likely not survive.

On Monday, June 19th, the energetic, adventurous baby boy "A" decided he was done hanging around in Mom's belly, and made his hasty arrival to a chaotic scene. Weighing just one pound and one ounce, he survived birth and was immediately transported to the NICU where a team went to work on saving his life. His little brother and fraternal twin, baby boy "B" who is far more relaxed and patient than "A," took his sweet time and arrived nearly three hours later, born en caul, an extremely rare phenomenon where a fetus and placenta entirely encased in their un-ruptured amniotic sac arrive in the world. This amazing circumstance provided baby boy "B" with the optimal birth experience, and his tiny one-pound and almost one-half-ounce self was also whisked off to the NICU for life-saving interventions.

Now, five days since their birth, the Glaze twins, baby boy, "A," named Gavin and baby boy, "B," named Wyatt, and their parents, have started an epic journey in hopes that someday, this beautiful family will be able to go home together.

The cost for one baby being cared for in a NICU is approximately $15,000 per day. This does not factor in the expenses for parents to travel back and forth to the hospital daily or, as is the case for the Glaze family who live nearly 2 hours from the hospital, find affordable lodging for at least one parent to stay close by should they need hasty access. Parents are not able to sleep at the hospital with their babies, they are not afforded a budget for the cost of transportation or parking, or meals taken on the go. If all continues to go well, the Glaze family is facing at a minimum, four months of care in the NICU. The financial reality of this early arrival is staggering and has created an additional layer of distress for this family, just trying to make it through this heart-wrenching experience to keep their family safe and together.

Love, prayers, well wishes, and support are so appreciated. The journey for Gavin and Wyatt will be long and difficult, so please keep those coming. And, if you're able to help with a monetary donation, every single dollar will help to ease the burden of navigating all the challenges facing the Glaze family.
