The Golden Girl Scholarship Fund

Hello, my wonderful supportive feminist friends!

 

I have a kick-ass, hardworking friend and fellow LIzzo-loving, smart, science-abiding student named Marie who is pursuing an associates degree at Columbus State Community College. Her goal is to obtain a degree to become a dental hygienist, incorporating her love of biology and working with people, as well as being a practical and good-paying job. Marie is no joke- she immigrated from the Ivory Coast in 2017 at 15, learned English while already knowing French and some Spanish and couple others, helps raise her young brothers and always asks me how I’M doing.

 

Her story, grit and just overall kindness and commitment to her principles, has inspired me to see if I can combine funds from the local bomb feminists in my life to create ’The Golden Girl’ scholarship. While the name may suggest this can only be awarded to girls, that’s not true. This has to support a feminist STEAM student who will use his/her/their education to promote feminist ideals like equality and empowerment.

2022 GOAL

 

The goal is to be able to fund a semester towards a STEAM associates degree at a community college. Based on estimates for Ohio resident tuition cost at Columbus State Community College ($5083/year), looking to raise $3000 to support semester tuition, books and related-transportation costs.  Excess funds will go towards long term goal to award a full year tuition cost.
