Welcome to The Great Skate Tour: Skate for a Voice!

Hello everyone! We're thrilled to invite you to join us on an incredible journey that combines the joy of roller skating with a profound mission – The Great Skate Tour by Skeet Fighter. From July to September 2024, we'll be embarking on a cross-country roller skating adventure, covering the distance from Washington State to Washington DC. But this is more than just a skating tour; it's a powerful initiative to raise awareness about the urgent and often overlooked issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP).

Why This Matters: The MMIP crisis disproportionately affects Indigenous communities across North America. Statistics reveal an alarming reality: Indigenous people are more likely to go missing or be murdered than any other demographic. According to the National Crime Information Center, Indigenous women face murder rates over ten times the national average. This is a heartbreaking and urgent issue that demands our attention, action, and advocacy.

The Great Skate Tour Mission: Our mission is clear - to skate for a voice and shine a spotlight on MMIP. As we glide across the country, we aim to:

  • Raise Awareness: By capturing the attention of communities nationwide, we seek to bring the MMIP crisis to the forefront of national and global conversations.
  • Empower Indigenous Voices: The Great Skate Tour is a platform to amplify the voices of Indigenous communities. We aim to foster understanding, respect, and solidarity.

Fundraise for Change: Your generous contributions will fuel this tour and enable us to support organizations actively working towards finding missing individuals, supporting affected families, and advocating for policy changes. 50%-70% of the donations will go to Ohkomi Forensics, an Indigenous non-profit organization and the rest will assist our tour.
About Ohkomi Forensics:
Skeet Fighter has partnered with Ohkomi Forensics to further promote their organization and their mission to advocating for MMIP.

  • Their Forensic Anthropology Lab services utilizes advanced techniques to provide critical insights into cases involving MMIP. Through rigorous analysis, they aim to contribute to the resolution of cases and help families find the closure they deserve.
  • Furthermore, their DNA testing services are essential for identifying and reuniting families with their loved ones. Using cutting-edge technology, they facilitate the process of confirming identities and establishing connections, offering a path towards healing and closure.
  • Ohkomi Forensics specializes in field and excavation services, conducting thorough and respectful searches for answers. Their commitment is to bring closure to families and communities as they utilize thorough investigative processes.

Why Support The Great Skate Tour:

  • Visibility Matters: By skating from the west coast to the east, we will be covering vast distances and engaging with diverse communities, ensuring that the MMIP crisis is visible to all.
  • Your Impact: Every dollar you contribute goes towards creating a lasting impact. 30% of the funds will support the logistics of the tour, outreach efforts, and team necessities to make this happen.
  • Community Unity: The Great Skate Tour is an opportunity for us all to come together, united by a shared purpose. Whether you lace up your skates, share our story, or contribute, you're a vital part of this movement.

Funding Breakdown:
Our goal is to cover all necessary expenses for the tour, including vehicle necessities, camping, fuel, food, and miscellaneous costs. We are also bringing our two dogs along as it would not be ideal for our dogs to be away from their family for 2-3 months. The estimated budget for this ambitious undertaking is about $15,000 - $25,000, which will be allocated as follows:

  • Vehicle necessities/Camping/Fuel: we plan to use our personal vehicle and require essential equipment like a reliable waterproof tent, camping equipment/tools. The estimated budget is around $15,000, ensuring a reliable and comfortable journey, covering necessary vehicle upgrades and fuel expenses throughout the tour.
  • Food/Including dog food: An estimated $5,000 to sustain the skating team, providing adequate nutrition during the two-three month journey.
  • Miscellaneous Expenses: A buffer of $5,000 to account for unforeseen circumstances, vehicle maintenance, campground fees, and incidentals.
Excess Funds: 50%-70% of the funds that are raised will be dedicated to supporting Ohkomi Forensics. We are committed to transparency.

Join us on The Great Skate Tour as we skate for a voice across the country, not just for the thrill of skating, but to make a difference. Let's raise our voices, funds, and awareness for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons – because every stride counts.

Together, we can create a world where every person, regardless of their background, is seen, heard, and valued.
