The Guerra twins, Adrian and Avery fundraiser.
Donation protected
Hello, I am Adrian and Avery's grandpa, and we wanted to find a way to help the kids get some funds put together to help them with the road ahead. Adrian and his brother Avery are very rare Monochorionic Monoamniotic twins. They shared a placenta and amniotic sac, making them a high-risk pregnancy that required them to be born two months early this April. We are very blessed to have them both with us here today.
Avery initially had chronic lung disease due to being two months premature, but with time he has improved and has been able to come home in early June and doing really well.
Adrian, however, was born with a cleft lip and palate and a condition called Hemifacial Microsomia. This condition causes the tissues and bones on the right side of his face to be underdeveloped or nonexistent. He was born without his right ear canal and external ear, causing complete deafness on his right side and moderate deafness on his left side. Along with his diagnosis, he was born without his right temporomandibular joint, the joint that connects his lower jawbone to his skull. So far, Adrian has undergone two major surgeries, including a tracheostomy and a gastrostomy.
His lip and nose repair will be coming up in October, but this is just the beginning of his long line of craniofacial surgeries.
The state of Michigan requires a private duty nurse to assist their family at home. After about two months of posting the job, they found they had to move away from their support team to find a nurse who could help. Once they finally got a nurse assigned, we found she could only work for a month and just gave us a 2-week notice, so that search continues. The nurse is needed as Adrian needs 24-hour care at this point, and the nurse helps in numerous ways, especially when communicating with the doctors and direct needs during appointments.
We are blessed to have insurance that covers many medical bills, but there are just so many things it doesn’t account for. Some of the things we encountered are Rebecca has needed to stop working to be a full-time caretaker. They have also moved down to one car so they can save money there. Multiple appointments weekly in Grand Rapids, prescriptions that aren’t covered, and medical equipment and supplies only go so far on insurance. We have an appointment in a few weeks to see if Adrian qualifies for a bone-anchored hearing aid; if not, that alone is $5,000. We could put so much on here, but we just want to reach out to the community that loves and cares for us. We know that there are people out there praying and wanting to help, and we appreciate that. It would be helpful to be able to get the items that keep Adrian mobile and to keep family life less difficult to travel, even if its a trip to the store for groceries.
This Go Fund Me is in part is because we have had some people ask how they could help.
Anything is appreciated as the road is long, and we are ready to trust Him as God has laid out this faith adventure before us.
