The Guinn Family Road To Recovery

Hello, My name is Joseph Guinn and on February 2nd of this year, I was in a motorcycle accident that nearly took my life. I spent a month at North Kansas City Hospital while I recovered from neck and spine surgery to repair and fuse my C1, C2 and C3, C5, C6 and a shattered C7 as well as my T1 and T2. I also broke my left clavical in two places as well as fracturing my sternum and several ribs on my left side. In addition, I stretched and tore my Brachial Plexus which is the nerve pathway down my left arm. To date, I still have not regained feeling nor control of my left hand and cannot feel most of my left arm. Recently, I learned that my left shoulder is out of socket and will stay dislocated until I have several other tests and surgeries to determine if I will ever regain control of my left side.

I work as a Police Officer and have recently been able to return to work on light duty. This does not allow me to work any of the off duty overtime I previously worked which resulted in losing what compares to a full time job's income every month. My wife also works as a school librarian.

It is hard to reach out and to ask for help, however, with all of the new medical co-pays and appointments stacking up on top of all of our existing bills and keeping up with our three children, I am in a position where asking for a hand up is about all I can do on top of returning to work. Your assistance would mean the world to me and provide my family with a chance to overcome these hard times.

Specifically, the funds raised will go directly toward our mortgage payment, car payment and keeping food in the house.
