Help for the Hanawalt Family

We are a group of close college friends who lost our dear, wonderful, brilliant friend Matt Hanawalt several years ago. Matt was from Paradise, California, and his sweet family just lost everything during the devastating Camp fire. We want to help them get back on their feet.
The fire consumed the Hanawalts’ beloved, multi-generational redwood home, which was built by LaDonna and Steve Hanawalt in collaboration with an architect in 1978. It was one-of-a-kind, and had been lovingly updated over the years, including an extensive remodel ten years ago that used up most of their savings. Their son Andy, his wife Christine, and their two daughters Piper and Georgia moved into the house three years ago so that they could help care for Steve, who has been battling serious health issues. Together the family has cared for him so that he can stay at home rather than moving to a facility. Following the fire, Steve suffered a stroke due to the stress of the experience. The fire destroyed the Hanawalt home along with everything LaDonna and Steve had collected over a 40+-year relationship, including all the photographs and mementos of their son/our friend Matt. Andy and Christine lost everything they’ve accrued in their 20 years together, and their insurance will cover very little.
In spite of all this, the Hanawalt's are managing to be there for their friends and neighbors through this incomprehensible experience. Andy is the vicar of a progressive church, and is focused on being an anchor for the community as people return and begin to sort through their losses. They expressed to us how blessed they feel to be alive, and how every day they meet people who have it just as bad or worse than they do. The devastation to their community is just mind-blowing.
Please help us care for these wonderful people as they begin the slow process of rebuilding.
