The Harding Family

On the 29th of January 2022, the Harding family received the news no one ever wants to hear - Ben has been diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer. This devastating news has not only rocked their family but has been felt by so many throughout our community.

 

Ben is 37. Husband to Clare for 11 years and Father to two beautiful children; Darcy, ten and Alexis, eight.

 

Since the diagnosis, Ben has already had several surgical procedures to help make him more comfortable and manage what symptoms of cancer they can, but this has not been without complications and further procedures to correct a failed stoma.

 

He will have a couple of weeks of recovery. Then, under the care of a specialist oncology team at The Canberra Hospital, Ben will start aggressive chemotherapy on the 9th of March 2022.

 

From Friday the 4th to Sunday the 6th of March 2022, I will be taking on the David Goggins Challenge to raise funds for Ben and Clare.

This challenge involves running 4miles (6.4km) every 4 hours for 48hours. Covering a total distance of 48 miles (76.8km).

I will complete each leg around the streets of Yass and hopefully with the support of the Yass community behind me. It will be 48 hours of pain, fatigue and suffering, but it will pale in comparison to what Ben has already endured over the past few months and to what lies ahead for him and their family.

My last leg of this challenge will be at 8 am Sunday on the 6th of March and will be completed around the river in Riverbank Park. The Murrumbateman Little Athletics club will supply a BBQ, and the funds raised from that will also go to Ben and Clare.

Funds raised will assist with the out-of-pocket costs to their family throughout Ben’s treatment, including specialist appointments, scans, medications, travel and time off work for both Ben and Clare.
