The Haxey Food Share Project
Donation protected
By opening a Community Pantry at St Nicholas’ Church Youth Hub, Haxey on Friday mornings from 9.30am-11.30am where members of the community can visit and help themselves to any food that is available.
There are no questions asked, no forms to fill in and no supporting documents needed. All that we ask is that people do not take more food than they need. The Community Pantry can also be opened by appointment.
The Community Pantry also serves as an advice point, signposting clients to additional support and other opportunities available. Internet access is provided here, with expert help to complete online applications for assistance, or to apply for jobs.
Unlike some existing foodbanks, there is no limit to the number of visits to the Community Pantry that can be made, or the number of food top-ups that are received. The contents of food top-ups are also flexible – we ask recipients to tell us a little about their family – number of adults and children, pets etc – also their likes, dislikes and allergies and we endeavour to tailor top-ups to suit (depending on what it available at the time).
Unlike traditional food banks as well as the usual tins and packet of long-dated food, we collect fresh, chilled, frozen food and food that is close to its use by date. Where possible food is frozen to preserve it. Where this is not possible, we look to distribute it quickly so that it can be used before it is out of date or perished.
Currently, the food share project is struggling to maintain the pantry. We would greatly appreciate any donations in order to replenish the pantry and continue to support struggling families in our community.
