The Horner Family needs our help

On Thursday 23rd of March life as the Horner family knew it changed forever. Our dear friend Jennifer was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and told that it had already travelled to her lymph nodes. She is undergoing additional testing this week to find out how far the cancer has metastasised.

Jen’s kindness and compassion towards other has always been evident. She has spent the last few years caring for her own father who had a stroke and has ongoing care requirements. She is also the first to lend support to others who need it and has been the rock for many as they overcome their own illnesses or problems.

After having to close down her much-loved photography business off the back of Covid, and only recently joining a new employer, this diagnosis couldn’t have come at a worse time for the family.

The initial treatment plan for Jennifer is to begin chemotherapy next week - to try and minimise any further spread of the cancer. After that the Dr’s will reassess and then make decisions around surgical requirements and ongoing treatment options.

Medical bills are already beginning to pile, with her scans, biopsies and pathology all being out of pocket expenses. These costs coupled with the loss of ability to work at all for at least the next 12 months, means that in addition to battling this disease, they are also going to have ongoing financial stress.

The recurrent message from Jen in the days after the initial diagnosis is that all she really wants is to try and keep life as normal as possible for Beth and James.

We have set up this go fund me account for the Horner Family as we would love to be able to raise as much as we can to put towards Beth and James’ school fees. Both children are in warm and caring school environments, with friendships that will support them through this difficult time for their family. We hope that contributing to their school fees without it being an additional cost for the family to consider, will give Jennifer and Ken peace of mind to be able to focus on busy and trying days ahead of them.
