The Asylum Seeker Resource Center in Footscray is facing difficult times providing for those they serve. COVID-19 has stretched their frontline services to their limits. Right now, they're one of the only lifelines for thousands of people who need their help.
Each day, their caseworkers are seeing increasing numbers of people needing urgent help with the basics, including people who had previously been living independently in the community before the pandemic. It's putting extreme pressure on their services.
They're asking for people to please give generously to their Winter Appeal so we they be there for everyone who needs their help -- today, tomorrow and every day of the year.
On Friday 12th- Saturday 13th June we are inviting students and staff to take part in "The Hunger experience"- going 24 hrs without eating to experience to a small degree what it would be like to live like a refugee or asylum seeker and struggle to source the necessities.
