'The In-Between' Short film Fundraiser by MUITA

Hi!
I'm Muita-Muthee, some of you may know me as Myke.

I am a Kenyan-born (award-winning) producer, concert photographer, actor, and director now based in Los Angeles. I am particularly interested in telling stories that explore the disharmony in our human condition, especially within the confines of love, sexuality, religion, and sociocultural taboos.

If you've met me and shared a story or two with me, then you can attest that I'm one of the biggest dreamers- I believe in the power of big dreams and the pursuit of the same.

I have a dream- The dream is to bring 'THE IN-BETWEEN' to life AND submit the project to festivals including TRIBECA , HOLLYSHORTS, and AUSTIN among others.

We need to raise $13000 by January 22nd 2023

ABOUT THE FILM:
Inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky's style and Céline Sciamma's 'Portrait of A Lady On Fire' , the film is a poetic abstract visual that is heavily centered on dreamlike visual imagery and a homage to pre-modern 'classical' painting look. The film, borne from a poem about unrequited love, is an exploration of the stories that linger when two parties do not fully commit to nurturing a love, a romance or an affair either through fear, miscommunication or the lack of (sincere) communication.

We will implement dance, poetry and film to bring these themes to life

THE POEM:

Director of Photography

SAMUEL EMERSON MORGAN JOHNSON
My work and aesthetic are rooted in portraiture and humanity. I have a genuine curiosity about the lives people live and a deep interest in the stories they tell. Subjects can feel my fascination, and it inspires them to give genuine, confident, and authentic performances.

Starting out in Denver, CO, I began my career in the film industry as a commercial editor/cinematographer. I quickly became fascinated with narrative storytelling through the lens. My passion for the art of framing and the power of light keeps me going, day after day. After making the jump to Los Angeles, I’ve found great success and have enjoyed boundless creative expansion in my field.

JENA SERBU
In the last half-decade Jena has written and directed a feature film starring Joey King, Trevante Rhodes, and Yvette Nicole Brown. Artist Statement:
In humanity’s dark drive towards the false pretext of safety, nothing is more certain than the compulsion of evolution.
In this lies nature’s staggering tenacity. It’s beautiful perfection; adaptive, recoverable, interdependent and transformable. No matter how above the fray our thoughts lead us to believe, we are a part of it. We are nature, both wonderful and horrid, explicable and baffling.
I hope, in my work, to celebrate that dichotomy, for without it we would have as our heroes, repetition, homogeneity and stagnation.
