According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder. These numbers have been skyrocketing into the recent years, as issues such as global warming, school shootings, and COVID-19 arouse feelings of helplessness and despair.

Here at "The Incandescent", we are committed to the solution. We are an entirely non-profit, teen-run literary magazine, and our team hails from across the globe-- From San Jose to Hong Kong, and from Atlanta to Seoul. Our purpose is to create a platform for teens and young adults to express their opinions and emotional response to world issues in the form of poetry, prose, visual art, and more. We also hope to be part of the solution to world problems such as global warming and COVID-19 by collecting funds through writing and art contests supporting young artists, writers, and musicians.

According to a 2010 study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, "creative engagement can decrease anxiety, stress, and mood disturbances". In other words, by encouraging the production of creative work through our literary magazine and working as a platform to share it, we aim to take a stand against mental illness while simultaneously fighting against world problems.

All the money raised through the GoFundMe would go toward funding the website, prizes, submissions, and other expenses. The website will consist of three sections: a regular stream of staff-created work including culture reviews, opinion editorials, and news highlights; a collection of poetry, prose, and art generated by submissions our reader team chooses to publish; an interactive, learning section committed to themed writing, contests, and a forum. We promise high-quality content starting in our quarantine days, and hopefully far into the future.

The word "incandescent" means a "luminous glow as a result of being heated", but it simultaneously means a "burning passion". Within the word, it also contains the phrase "I can". By funding our website, not only will you be providing a global platform to empower young artists, writers, and musicians everywhere, but you will be fueling our flame-like passion as a generation to be part of the solution.

When a fire is kindled, it only knows how to grow.

Donate to our magazine, and spark the next generation of positive change.
