The Innes Family Needs Your Help

Hi everyone,
If you know me, you know I hate asking for help. But life has been chaos for awhile lately and, well, here I am.
Life has been really difficult since 2020, and I know it has been for everyone. My wife Danielle (Marie) has some crazy medical issues from fibromyalgia to cramp fasciculation syndrome. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of CFS, no one has. It’s a very rare neurological disease that has only been identified since 1991. Cramp Fasciculation syndrome (CFS) is a chronic, benign condition characterized by fasciculations and significant muscle cramps. It also makes her immune compromised. Add that with her fibromyalgia and the threat of Covid, and she hasn’t be able to work in a couple years.
I do my best to take care of her and our two children (Andy 17 & Logan 14) with my one income. Both Danielle and I are trauma abuse survivors that have spent the last couple years trying to recover from things that happened in our childhood and push forward with all the new challenges we seem to face everyday.
We are an extremely creative family doing everything from art, podcasts, YouTube. And more. But with health and financial troubles, depression, all that’s been put on the back burner.
In late November my mom fell in her home and was taken to hospital. There she was diagnosed with dementia at only 68. She was also a hoarder. Like you see on the TV. So we had to go get her recovered and placed in a nursing home. We also had to deal with the mountain of mess that was her house.
While dealing with that Danielle’s brother (who had a rare heart condition his entire life) passed away after a transplant. All of this has been very devastating, but we have been taking it on the chin. We were looking into moving from Manitoba to Ontario to be closer to my mom, but financially it’s just not in the cards.
We flew back to Manitoba last week and Danielle developed a cough that quickly turned into bilateral pneumonia. The pneumonia turned sepsis and since she is diabetic it caused DKA. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of diabetes that can be life-threatening. It develops when your body doesn't have enough insulin to allow blood sugar into your cells for use as energy. This caused her body to start failing and she had to be sedated, incubated and air lifted from the remote community of Thompson to Winnipeg.
Since she was airlifted, I’m not eligible to be classified as an escort for her. So there’s no financial coverage. They did say that I can come, keep all my receipts and when she is released I can submit for reimbursement. They didn’t say it would be approved, but it’s worth a shot.
I have very little money right now as I’m in between jobs. I’m supposed to start on-boarding on Wednesday, but I’ll see about pushing that back as I have no idea how long Danielle is going to be in the ICU. The money I have is going to feed the kids at home and I’m spending as little as I can on food for myself in Winnipeg. Last night I slept in the hospital, but since it’s the ICU, it’s not really a place to stay. I talked to the charge nurse and a social worker today who were very helpful about accommodations. They can help me get a hotel room with a medical rate of $89. I don’t have money for that and food.
So here I am. Seeing you amazing people could help me out while my family goes through the toughest time of our lives. Thank you for taking the time to read this long winded snippet of our life. Doing my best to put my pride on the sideline and ask for some help.
Thank you so much.
Shawn
